Semiparametric models for capture-recapture studies with covariates

چکیده
A 4exible method for modelling capture–recapture data with continuous covariates that describe heterogeneous catchability is developed. The well established generalized additive modelling framework is used. An estimator of population size is developed using this method. The performance of the method is demonstrated using neural tube defect capture–recapture data from the Netherlands, with the birth weight of a child as a covariate. The parametric bootstrap is used for variance estimation. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Maximum penalized likelihood estimation in semiparametric capture-recapture models
We consider a semiparametric modeling approach for capture-recapture-recovery data where the temporal and/or individual variation of model parameters – usually the demographic parameters – is explained via covariates. Typically, in such analyses a fixed (or mixed) effects parametric model is specified for the relationship between the model parameters and the covariates of interest. In this pape...
متن کاملSemiparametric regression in capture-recapture modeling.
Capture-recapture models were developed to estimate survival using data arising from marking and monitoring wild animals over time. Variation in survival may be explained by incorporating relevant covariates. We propose nonparametric and semiparametric regression methods for estimating survival in capture-recapture models. A fully Bayesian approach using Markov chain Monte Carlo simulations was...
متن کاملEstimation of population size based on additive hazards models for continuous-time recapture experiments.
We use the semiparametric additive hazards model to formulate the effects of individual covariates on the capture rates in the continuous-time capture-recapture experiment, and then construct a Horvitz-Thompson-type estimator for the unknown population size. The resulting estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal with an easily estimated variance. Simulation studies show that the asympt...
متن کاملEffective Use of Multiple Error-prone Covariate Measurements in Capture-recapture Models
We study capture-recapture models in a closed population when multiple error-prone measurements of a covariate are available. Due to the identity between the number of captures and the number of measurements, no suitable complete and sufficient statistic exists, and the existing method no longer applies. The familiar strategy of generalized method of moments fails to resolve this issue satisfac...
متن کاملRidge Stochastic Restricted Estimators in Semiparametric Linear Measurement Error Models
In this article we consider the stochastic restricted ridge estimation in semipara-metric linear models when the covariates are measured with additive errors. The development of penalized corrected likelihood method in such model is the basis for derivation of ridge estimates. The asymptotic normality of the resulting estimates are established. Also, necessary and sufficient condition...
